and here is one of my helpers holding up the new piece to check the fit before we screw it in permanently. Notice the tabs on the inside and outside corners in order to catch a 2x4 frame under the drywall when I screw the molding in place.

Here's my other helper showing the custom piece after it has been screwed in place. Cutting out the back made the piece a little flimsy but I'm sure it will be enough to hold the weight of a section of tile when you include the main beams and cross tees.

You can use an awl or a sharp nail to punch holes in the molding to make the screws go through much easier. I put a piece of wood under to protect the flooring in the playroom.
